Winter Village II - progression

I'd always wanted to show the progress on a paining because I'm always so intimidated at the beginning by starting with a blank canvas. Then all of a sudden it's the end and I'm relieved and I forget all about the fun I had inbetween! So I think tracking my progress will help me in the future gain a little patience at the start.

I started with white and blue streaks all down the canvas and then I charcoaled in the outline of the houses and then blocked in color which will be the opposite hue of the final colors.
Here I'm adding the rooftops.

After blocking in the opposite color on the houses, I'm now adding all the windows and their details.

After covering all the houses with snow, I'm adding in the trees, the little people sledding and skiing and the snowman. Finally I add the most important detail that I forgot on the original Winter Village - Snow Splatter! In fact I was splattering so much that I got snow all over the frame that was hanging out to the right of the paining. I decided to leave it on the frame and pretend I intended it all along.

Winter Village

First, I have to say this turned out to be a LOT more work than what I first pictured the scene to be in my head. Second, the only thing getting me through it was knowing I could put it on the blog in time for the cold weather coming. A little cheer to cure the winter blues. Third, I was fighting myself the whole process through because I had to force myself to be more loose with my style. And although I see lots of inconsistencies and things that really wouldn't exist in nature that way, I'm calling this one a wrap!

Beach chair

This picture demonstrates a beach chair on the German beach (North Sea).
I love to imagine sitting in this chair with a warm blanket and watching the ocean on a windy day.

A Trip to the Pumpkin Farm

Most recent class project. I painted this from a photo of my son and granddaughter. Izzy is now five. She asked me to add some flowers so I painted the mums. I think it added to the painting. I will always try to see things through the eyes of a child.

starting off the first post with a collaborative work

Appropriately titled "Girls' Night", this was the group effort directed by Katja and including Edna, Lindsay & Shelly. Sharing the same pallet but each contributing our own style, our collaborative piece will keep us together at he(art) even when we're oceans apart!

Welcome to our collaborative art site

Here we will post our latest artistic endeavors. We encourage comments and feedback to help us grow! All friends are welcome. Enjoy!
